Hartford, CT (January 20, 2026) – The Mark Twain House & Museum will welcome National Book Award–winning historian and bestselling author Dr. Ibram X. Kendi for an author talk celebrating his new book, Chain of Ideas: The Origins of Our Authoritarian Age, on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The program is presented in collaboration with the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center for Literary Activism.

In Chain of Ideas, Kendi traces how “great replacement theory” and related conspiracies have evolved over centuries, moving from fringe paranoia to mainstream political rhetoric. He examines how these ideas have shaped modern fears, fueled extremist movements, and threatened democracy itself. Through history and analysis, Kendi challenges readers and audiences to confront the forces undermining equality and justice and to imagine a freer, more democratic future.

The evening will include remarks by Dr. Kendi, a moderated conversation, and audience Q&A.

Tickets are now on sale. Bundled tickets (book + general admission) and general admission tickets are available at: https://ci.ovationtix.com/35359/production/1262710
