Hartford, Conn. (March 12, 2026) — The Mark Twain House & Museum is proud to launch its 2026 Birdies for Charity campaign, inviting supporters to make their gifts go further during a special year for the nation and for one of its most enduring literary voices.
As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, the museum is framing this year’s campaign around Mark Twain’s lasting place in American life and letters. Supporters are encouraged to help preserve Twain’s Hartford home and sustain the educational and cultural work that continues there every day. This year’s campaign carries added resonance as America approaches its 250th anniversary in the same year that The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, first published in 1876, marks its 150th anniversary.

Through Birdies for Charity, every donation made to The Mark Twain House & Museum goes directly to the museum and receives a 15% bonus, helping each gift have even greater impact.
The campaign builds on the momentum outlined in the museum’s 2025 Year in Review, which highlighted growth in educational opportunities, continued expansion of public and literary programming, and the preservation and collections work that makes the museum’s mission possible behind the scenes.
Mark Twain remains one of America’s defining voices, and his Hartford home remains one of the country’s most important literary landmarks. In 2026, the museum is inviting donors, members, readers, and friends of history to celebrate that legacy by helping fund its future.
