The Friends of The Mark Twain House & Museum will hold its 38th annual Holiday House Tour on Sunday, December 2, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Homes may be visited in any order during the event.

Visit the Mark Twain House and the private homes of Michael Peck, Susan and Gary Bazzano, Brooke and Ted Whittemore, and Sheila and John D’Agostino.

The Mark Twain House will be decorated for a late-19th-century Christmas and the private homes will be decorated according to their homeowners’ holiday traditions.

All proceeds benefit the restoration, preservation, and education programs of The Mark Twain House & Museum.

Michael Peck’s home, 200 Scarborough St., Hartford is a 1925 Colonial Revival built for the Goodwin family by architect Benjamin Wistar Morris. The grounds include kinetic sculptures, dinosaurs, bulls and a dog. Inside is a bas relief by Michael Alfano and a sculpture by Amy LaBossiere.

Susan and Gary Bazzano’s home, 1414 Asylum Ave., Hartford is a 1913 Georgian Revival build for insurance executive William Scheide. Inside see Susan Bazzano’s doll collection, a view of Elizabeth Park, and an Italian tapestry.

Brook and Ted Whittemore’s home, 53 Westwood Road, West Hartford, is a 1930 Tudor Revival designed by Lester B. Scheide (son of William Scheide), who designed many of the stately  homes in the Hartford Golf Club Historic District. The 18th-century style paneling and staircase in the entrance hall are beautiful features of the home.

Sheila and John D’Agostino’s home, 70 Norwood Drive, West Hartford, is a 1930 Tudor Revival home, also designed by Lester B. Scheide and pays homage to Homewood, a 1901 home by British architect Sr. Edward Lutyens.  The home includes a Tiffany glass display and a comfortable living room with a marine painting by Gordon Grant and two paintings of the Rose Garden in Elizabeth Park by Marge Dean.

Tickets are $30 in advance, or $35 the day of the tour.
