Humor isn’t a natural-born talent. It can be learned. Scott Dikkers, the founder of, will show you how to write funny. In this special workshop for writers, The Onion‘s founding editor will share his unique system for creating reliably funny writing, consistently and repeatably. Scott will share dozens of tips and tricks professionals use to churn out comedy gold time and time again. You’ll learn how to eliminate writer’s block; the secret ingredient to all humor; the 11 different kinds of jokes and how to tell them; and the biggest mistake most struggling humor writers make., the world’s first humor website, launched in 1996. Dikkers is also one of the co-founders of The Onion newspaper and served as its owner and editor-in-chief.

He was in charge of creating TheOnion News Network web series, serving as a director and executive producer.

Dikkers is the author of How to Write Funny and How to Write Funnier, both used in the Writing with The Onion program at The Second City Training Center in Chicago. He offers courses and resources for comedy writers on the How to Write Funny website.
