FreeThe Mark Twain House & Museum is sorry to announce that the Write to the Point live Studio Showcase scheduled for Friday, August 7, has been canceled. Apprentice portfolios and exhibits will still be available at to view here starting August 7, and remain up throughout the summer.
We are incredibly proud of all that the apprentices have accomplished in the past six weeks, and are very excited to share it with you, albeit in a new format. Thank you for your understanding and support.
The Mark Twain House & Museum is proud to be part of the Greater Hartford Arts Council‘s Neighborhood Studios program, which develops emerging artists and teaches teens the value of creativity and fundamental career skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce. For six weeks every summer, this program offers paid apprenticeships to students ages 14 to 18 at six Hartford locations.
The studio at the Mark Twain House focuses on creative writing with its “Write to the Point” program. Beginning Monday, June 29, sixteen apprentices began receiving virtual instruction in creative writing, and exploring the role of power in a writer’s work through poetry, creative non-fiction, and museum exhibition. Under the tutelage of Master Teaching Artist Vicky Nordlund and her assistant Joyce Hida, they will spend six weeks fine-tuning their creative voices, using the Mark Twain House itself as inspiration. At the end of their apprenticeship, they will present two final projects, including a performance of original poetry and prose, and a group museum exhibit.
Neighborhood Studios is supported by Travelers Foundation, The Hartford, Lincoln Financial Foundation, Ensworth Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, N.A, Trust, Charles Nelson Robinson Fund, Bank of America, N.A, Trustee, Farmington Bank Community Foundation, Berkshire Bank Foundation, and Stanley D. and Hinda N.
