May 21 • 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm $200
Highclere Castle Gin & Cigars, the Philip Cheney Mansion, Onyx Spirits, and the DORO Restaurant Group, are joining forces to create an evening of unparalleled opulence for 40 lucky souls. The event takes place in the beautifully-restored 1928 Philip Cheney Mansion in Manchester, complete with expansive entrance hall, grand salon and dining hall, and library. The Cheney family were the dominant silk makers in the United States from about the Civil War until World War II.
Enjoy a cocktail and butlered hors d-oeuvres, catered by Dorjan Puka, whose DORO Restaurant Group runs West Hartford’s Treva, Zohara and áVert restaurants. Enter the grand salon for special presentations and discussions. Adam von Gootkin, co-founder of Onyx Spirits, will discuss his book Living Proof and his partnership with the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, owners of Highclere Castle (where Downton Abbey was shot). Von Gootkin will showcase a new Highclere-branded gin, which uses lavender from the estate’s monk’s gardens planted by the Bishops of Winchester in the 9th century, and wild juniper found on the estate since the Romans occupied the land in the Iron Age.
Cheney Mansion owner Anthony Viscogliosi will discuss grand home preservation and recount Mark Twain’s visits to the Cheney Mansion. Cheney Textiles produced more than 500 patterns for Candace Wheeler who worked on the interior design of The Mark Twain House.
Gin, whiskey, and cigar tastings will follow in the library, with food buffet in the dining room. Experience an evening of luxury in the high style of a bygone time.
Tickets are $200 for this exclusive party.
