As of August 19, 2024 we reached our goal of raising $14,838 to conserve Mark Twain’s steamer trunk and the pockets to his billiard table!
Thanks to an Institute of Museum and Library Services “Museums for America” grant, The Mark Twain House & Museum was able to contract with Williamstown Art Conservation Center for this work. The grant covered half the costs, requiring the museum to raise the matching half. The goal was reached thanks to over 100 donors over the past year.
THANKS to everyone who donated to this project.
The pockets are scheduled to be reinstalled on the billiard table at the end of August and the trunk will be back on view in our I Have Sampled This Life exhibition by September 1st.
