The holiday season is busy at The Mark Twain House & Museum with three Jill Sobule concerts, a live radio drama presentation of A Christmas Carol, a Sunday sale in the museum store, and the 38th Annual Friends of the Mark Twain Holiday House tour.

Museum Store Sunday Sale, November 25, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

The Museum Store at the Mark Twain House takes 25 percent off all merchandise as part of the worldwide observance of Museum Store Sunday. Mark Twain books, themed-jewelry, and mugs make ideal holiday gifts. T-shirts with Twain quotes, bow ties, and a Tiffany lily scarf are among clothing items. A fountain pen, a novel journal, and a book light appeal to writers. Branded key chains, magnets, and mints are ideal stocking stuffers.

A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Drama, Saturday, December 1,  at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets: $8 children, 6-16; $12 adults.

A Christmas Carol, the Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, comes to life as a live 1940s radio broadcast, complete with vintage commercials for fruitcake (extra-fancy), live sound effects, and musical underscoring.

 38th Annual Friends of the Mark Twain House Holiday House Tour, Sunday December 2, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets: $30 in advance; $35 day of tour.

This self-guided tour includes the Mark Twain House, 351 Farmington Ave. Hartford.  The house will be decorated for a late-19-century Christmas, and four private homes will be decorated according to their homeowners’ holiday traditions.

Visit the homes in any order. Tickets available at all locations.

The tour includes: a 1925 Colonial Revival with large sculptures on the grounds, at 200 Scarborough St., Hartford; a 1913 Georgian Revival, with doll collection and Italian tapestry at 1414 Asylum Ave., Hartford; and two 1930 Tudor Revivals, 53 Westwood Road and 70 Norwood Road in in the Hartford Golf Club Historic District in West Hartford.

Jill Sobule: Three Concerts Live in Mark Twain’s Library, December 11, 12, 13, 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $50.

American singer-songwriter Jill Sobule returns to perform three intimate, acoustic concerts in Mark Twain’s Library.

In mid-May Sobule performed two concerts in the cozy library where Twain and his family often entertained guests.  The library will seat 35 guests per show, and Jill Sobule will greet concertgoers after the show.

Sobule has just released Nostalgia Kills, her 12th album and first in almost a decade.
In a Billboard interview, she said, “There were things that happened in my life — the death of a parent, a breakup, a move. I was my own procrastinatrix, is what I call it. But I think those kind of jostle you back into the creative mode, and I started loving music again…”
