Available to Hartford-area students, thanks to the Greater Hartford Arts Council
Neighborhood Studios Paid Apprenticeships
Neighborhood Studios is the Greater Hartford Arts Council’s award-winning summer arts apprenticeship program, offering a one-of-a-kind learning experience in the arts, providing Greater Hartford teens with paid, hands-on artistic training and valuable career skills essential to today’s workforce. For six weeks each summer, the program sends participating teens to art studios at cultural organizations throughout Hartford, uniting both students and their families to the city’s diverse arts and cultural community.
How does living in Connecticut shape who you are as a writer? If you become famous, what would you preserve and collect for “the museum of you”? How are objects the focus of writing? Through poetry and creative nonfiction, apprentices will explore the role of time and place on a writer’s work. Working with Master Teaching Artists and museum staff, and through mapping, study in The Mark Twain House & Museum, and writing exercises, apprentices will compose and perform pieces exploring place and identity.
Visit the GHAC’s Neighborhood Studios page to learn more about this great opportunity. We will post 2019 information as soon as it becomes available.
